Takamaka Extra Noir hails from the Seychelles' Trois Frères distillery, and is part of the St Andre series of premium blended rums. Takamaka Extra Noir has been bottled at 43% without chill filtration or the use of any added sugar.
Takamaka Extra Noir is a blend of pot and column-distilled molasses rum that has been 'pressed' using a process called hydrodynamic cavitation where the rum is infused with oak chips and then subjected to high speeds and low pressure. This causes the formation of bubbles of vapour within the rum, which is believed to create a mellowing effect. Afterwards, the rums used for Extra Noir are rested in refill rum casks for 60 days before bottling.
