An old presentation of Penderyn Peated single malt Welsh whisky, bottled by the distillery at 46% without colouring or chill filtration. Penderyn Peated is part of the distillery's Gold core range; this particular version was replaced in late 2017 when the Gold range was given a new bottle shape.
The smokiness in Penderyn Peated comes not from the spirit but from the cask finishing process, which uses casks that previously held peated Scotch whisky to imbue Penderyn's fresh, hyper-clean bourbon cask matured spirit with a pleasing but not over-assertive phenolicity. Penderyn are now making their own peated spirit at their Llandudno distillery, which opened in 2021, so we should see a fully peated Welsh whisky before too long.
