This 55-year-old Macallan 1950 from G&M is one of these ancient Speysiders that somehow seems to combine everything that is magical about these old drams: exuberant and intense fruitiness of all kinds, a myriad of different spices, sweetness and dryness in turns, touches of ancient peat smoke and all kinds of medical complexities, rancio, natural tar, smoke, numerous herbal notes, liqueurs, citrus oils, gamey notes and an immensely long finish that would suggest a whisky way above 43%.
