Bowmore 1963-1993 | 30 Year Old 30th Anniversary
Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 50%
An old bottle of the legendary Bowmore 1963 30-year-old Islay single malt whisky. This was a commemorative official bottling released in 1993 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the distillery's acquisition by whisky broker Stanley P. Morrison.
Morrison had acquired Bowmore in unusual circumstances, having overheard two lawyers discussing the impending sale of the distillery to foreign buyers while lunching at Glasgow's Malmaison restaurant one afternoon in July 1963. He abandoned his meal to phone the distillery's owner Kay Grigor, persuaded her to let him gazump the deal and shook hands on the purchase over dinner that evening.
This exquisite 30-year-old Bowmore 1963 was an edition of just 600 bottles released at a powerful 50% strength. A wonderfully elegant whisky with a scintillating balance of fruit and mellow peaty notes.
